Personal Artistic Statement:
I love the feel of fabric as I press it on a roll. A fabric that feels like water through my fingers or a wool with a beautiful Plaid. My first project was a McAll pattern I picked out with my dad at Jo-Ann fabrics when I was in fifth grade. I haven’t stopped since. I am quite comfortable in a shop setting in many different roles. I am confident, when given an assignment, that I can execute it with skill and minimal instruction while still leaving room for collaboration. I strive to keep evolving as a technician, learning new methods and honing skills as well as developing my point of view as an artist. Having a conversation with a designer, understanding their design and helping to bring it to reality, is one of the things I enjoy most about what I do. I want to explore the limits and possibilities of different fabrics as well as the most effective applications for different materials. Working in a professional, fast paced, New York City Shop as well as prestigious institutions such as The Santa Fe Opera have helped improve my speed, time management, and sewing skills. Learning is a lifelong pursuit and I will continue picking up new information. I hope in the future I am skilled and knowledgeable enough to guide and teach others. Costume technology on the whole can be a hard field to break into and one of my goals is to cultivate spaces that create more access to it and the knowledge I have already gained. Being an effective leader of a team who produces beautiful and well made clothes for stage and screen is an important goal for me and I will make more space for individuals of all backgrounds to join me in this space.
